How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“When I was looking for a woodsy venue to get married at on the east coast, I stumbled upon Woodsgate at Stroudsmoor and it immediately stood out to me! We could get married surrounded by trees, with the ease of an all inclusive reception a short walk away. When we visited and saw the woodland chapel, even in the middle of winter, my breath was taken away and I wanted to cry because of how perfect and beautiful it is. It’s very secluded and has a lit-up walk to the ceremony site up an adorable path, and the reception hall has a cozy homey feel, while being straight out of a fantasy novel. We didn’t need much floral decor because of how beautiful everything is already, but the floral we did get was the perfect finishing touch, and I’m still obsessing over my bouquet. Aside from the gorgeous fairytale setting, the service was phenomenal and both our planner, Malia, and the staff were there to see to all our needs and make the day as stress-free and easygoing as possible. Malia was always quick to answer any questions, and was very willing to bring our unconventional ideas like Rock Band karaoke at the reception to life. Sometimes with all-inclusive venues you’re limited with customizing the wedding but that was not at all the case with Stroudsmoor. Everyone was so kind, professional, and our guests raved about the incredible food and service. I couldn’t imagine getting married at a more perfect place, and highly recommend this to anyone looking to have their own whimsical woodland wedding!!”

The planning process was incredibly simple. With all the moving parts weddings encompass, the staff were very flexible and accommodating to what we wanted to make our day as special as it was. The setting for the ceremony and reception felt like we were in another world. Again, the planning for how we wanted our items set up were seamless with the staff's help. They made sure all the details we wanted were accommodated for. Lastly, but certainly very important and helpful was the cleanup for the end of the night. “10/10!!! If we could get married 10 times over again, we would be at Walden 10 times more. Walden was the most perfect wedding venue from start to finish. The main thing that we were looking for in a venue was an all inclusive vibe that would allow for as little planning and stress as possible, as neither of us were really into the whole wedding planning thing. Walden was just that. The wedding planners that you work with from the beginning, make it so easy to stay on track. the app that they use was super helpful to make sure that everything was organized and things are done according to the best timeline. We never once felt stressed out about the whole wedding planning process and that really says a lot about Walden and how great they are. Big shout out to Krystle and Alyssa for making the process so seamless and making sure we were supported. The other important piece of criteria that we wanted was on site catering so that our guests would have the best experience from a food perspective. The food was phenomenal! Our guests raved about how great it was, saying it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had. The bar was the best wedding bar I’ve ever seen. The drink selection was on point, with amazing cocktails and the bar staff was incredible. A huge shout out to bartender Amy, who made sure that both of us had drinks in our hand the entire night! Walden is so thoughtful in their entire approach from making sure you are taken care of months before the wedding, to the day of the wedding, giving you space to have a cocktail, appetizer, and a breather before the party starts! At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. “From the second we saw the venue in person and met with the Event Manager, Myles, we knew we found the perfect venue. The venue was beautiful from the start but the added touches of drapery, being able to select the right arch from their numerous options and countless other decor items really allowed us to bring our vision to life. The event spaces of the ceremony room, courtyard for cocktail hour and reception room comfortably fit our 94 guests. We were also very appreciative of not only having a spacious bridal suite to get ready in but also a grooms suite, as both came in handy. In briefly working with the Owner and Event Manager, Erin, we were introduced to the transportation option of using the venue's trolley service, which we were so thrilled we went with as our guests greatly enjoyed the special ride. And as mentioned, we knew The Boylston Rooms was the right venue for us after we met with Myles. Working with Myles was fun, effortless and very thorough. “From first contact to the Big Day, the experience with the incredible people at The Oviatt was amazing. They’re friendly, supportive, accommodating, helpful, and just like NORMAL and COOL. The kinds of people you want to deal with all the time, the kinds of people you want to be friends with. That’s reason enough to book this place, but of course there’s the venue itself. It is GORGEOUS. It is so cool. Historic. Picturesque. It feels special to be there. And after looking around all over town, it is by far the best package in all of Los Angeles. The price includes so much that other venues simply don’t provide. We couldn’t have afforded to have a wedding this amazing anywhere else. “Green Acres was an absolute dream for our wedding on May 25th! The barn is breathtaking—rustic, romantic, and full of charm. Our ceremony upstairs felt magical, and the entire day flowed seamlessly thanks to Megan, our amazing venue manager. She truly went above and beyond. The downstairs space was perfect for the cocktail hour, and the bridal suite shed out back was adorable—plenty of room for me and my seven bridesmaids. One of the biggest hits was the fire pit with the s’mores package—such a fun, cozy touch to end the night. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful or well-run venue. Green Acres made our wedding unforgettable!”

“Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Not only was Christine present the day of, but the staff was also on their A game all night long. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and kind, we felt like royalty. We both highly recommend this venue and if you do, definitely get the Schnitzel, Prost! The only recommendation to the venue would be to update their beverage packages to include seltzers such as High noons or White claws. “From the moment we stepped into Watson Block we just knew it was exactly what we were looking for in a venue. If your vibe is intimate, romantic, old world charm this is your spot. Pictures don’t do it justice and it’s so beautiful you truly need very little to make it your own. Gaby was incredible for the entire planning process all the way through to our big day. We did almost everything ourselves- including creating an arch to be married under, to signage, to table decor, even our own wedding flowers. Gaby answered every question with ease and was incredible at assuaging my nerves. She and her team set things up perfectly from the ceremony to the switch for dinner and then dancing. I often questioned if we needed a day of coordinator and was so happy I didn’t waste my money on one because it wasn’t needed. I never knew a day could be as truly magical as our wedding was and a huge part of that was how much we loved our venue. I would happily suggest it to anyone asking. The other huge bonus is it was truly one of if not the best value for venues in the twin cities. This gem will continue to gain notoriety as an incredible venue for years to come!!”

“Got married at Simple Affair this June and everything was wonderful from start to finish! From the very first visit before securing the date, the staff was very informative and helpful. Maddy, our event coordinator, was so responsive and attentive to any and all questions we had throughout the planning process. The day of, the team that was working was very helpful as well and adjusted to even the smallest last minute changes we made to our timeline and the different adjustments we made to the flow of the reception. I could not recommend this venue enough! They have so many different options and can as involved and all inclusive or as hands off as you would like them to be, it’s really very personalizable and we couldn’t have picked a better option! Another great benefit is that if you are a DIY bride, they are so adaptable to your vision and can help assist in bringing your Pinterest board to life. The space of the venue really is so big it’s amazing how well you can decorate the space and still have room for a big dance floor. One specific thing we loved about this venue and a big reason we went with them was the possibility of bringing in your own food to better fit your vision. Having specific kinds of food was very important to us because we had a particular vision and we were able to achieve that here! “Flagstaff House was incredible! They were such a great venue. Annie was our event planner, and she was perfect - professional, friendly, and so helpful helping everything run smoothly day of. The venue itself was beautiful and did a great job helping us plan for any weather scenario. The food was INCREDIBLE - each of the dishes were delicious and the cake was just as beautiful as it was delicious. It ended up being a surprisingly budget friendly option as well - although the price for food is higher than most places, the fact that the restaurant provided everything needed for the lunch including custom menus, the cake, and all of the linens/chairs/tables/table numbers/etc. meant that the total price ended up being a great value.”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.
