How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“I don’t even know where to begin. As a former wedding photographer I found Walden while shooting a wedding years ago and was blown away by the space and service. When we got engaged they were the first venue I contacted for a tour and every single step along the way has reaffirmed that there’s no team I would rather have for our wedding. Maria, the owner was so fantastic for the first walk through and all of the communication was thorough and quick. Matt, the bar manager was phenomenal and everyone raved about our welcome and signature drinks. He worked with us to come up with exactly what we wanted and they tasted phenomenal. Forever in love with our fall welcome drink and my Prickly Pear Mojito. Nick, the co-owner and head chef was SO prompt with his responses and the food was to die for. As a former wedding vendor I know wedding food is typically sub par and that was 90% of my deciding factor for where we booked. EVERYTHING is amazing. He even worked with us to do items off the menu with our request to bring in some of our culture. Loved every second of it and was so sad when I had to accept we’re done with their cooking. The service team, literally all of them from start to finish were the most exceptional people I’ve encountered. So thorough, caring, and attentive. Never did I have to wait or wonder where anything was or what was happening next. They checked on us non stop and were always ready with another drink or hors d'oeuvre. Truly exceptional. Finally, to our two amazing planners. I don’t have the words. Krystle and Alyssa MADE our day, week, year. Always ready to provide input, be a sounding board, and go the extra mile. “My partner and I’s venue search ended the second we ascended in the historical elevator to the penthouse of the James Oviatt Building. The Oviatt venue is a multifaceted piece of beautiful Art Deco history that lends itself well to whatever event you are trying to throw. In our case, they hosted our wedding. We will forever be grateful for their immense care and kindness leading up to, on, and after the big day. We met the President Gabe first, who had his own wedding at this venue before he managed it. He made us feel right at home and answered every question we could muster. Our one hour showing turned into a two and a half hour conversation where his care and passion for the venue and his clients became very clear. We felt a connection right away. He shared a wealth of great advise and reassurances and gave us an impeccable pool of preferred vendors. We were sold in minutes. Every event is different, but my partner and I did not feel the space needed any help to become beautiful. The architectural art of the space is breathtaking and unique from the valet area outside of the Cicada Club all the way to the terrace. We saved a fortune on a florist. Who needs one when everything is already so classy? Speaking of class, the Director of Events Lindsey took point on execution and was our resource during the planning process. I as an individual am not the most communicative. I needed someone with that attention to detail and she delivered. After giving her all the venue required specifications (seating chart, insurances, etc,) two conversations was all it took for her to equip the venue with everything it needed and make it gorgeous. It seemed effortless for her. Not a spec of dust or dirt to be seen and the staff was respectful, efficient, and welcoming. I had a panic attack because I forgot to ask them for valet and she was able to get her people on it without issue the same week as the wedding. (Don’t be like me, but that is a perfect example of how on top of it they are.) They had EVERYTHING we could have wanted for a downtown metropolitan wedding and then some. If they didn’t have it? They knew exactly where to refer you. One of my personal favorite features was their completely customizable LED lighting strips on the hedges that lined either side of the rooftop. We had them a bright warm light for dinner and then a cycle of rainbow colors for dancing. They are inclusive and welcoming to any and all who come to visit. We felt valued, respected, and well cared for. It truly was the best day of our lives and we owe it all to The Oviatt. I implore to to reach out to them. I can say with certainty that you won’t be disappointed and whatever it is you are planning will become a memorable experience unlike any other.”

“Having our wedding at The Wheeler House made for such an amazing and stress-free day. We loved that The Wheeler House included a caterer, DJ, and cake—it truly felt like a one-stop shop. Having so many major vendors already included made the planning process much easier and far less overwhelming. They also provide a list of preferred vendors for photography, florals, makeup, and transportation, which made selecting the remaining vendors incredibly easy. I booked one of their preferred floral vendors, and it was such a great experience since they already knew the space, the layout, and what would look best for the overall design. We also booked one of their preferred transportation vendors, which was just as convenient because they were familiar with the property and logistics, making everything run effortlessly. The entire staff at The Wheeler House was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and consistently positive from the moment we booked through our wedding day. Having one location for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception kept the day flowing beautifully. We also loved having both indoor and outdoor options. We had a winter wedding, and while the southern weather allowed us to be outside, knowing we had a stunning indoor backup option gave us so much peace of mind during planning in case of rain or colder temperatures. We also booked The Wheeler House cottages for our wedding weekend, which made getting ready and overnight accommodations extremely convenient. Having our family and bridal party together all weekend made the experience even more special. While The Wheeler House may initially seem more expensive, we absolutely got our money’s worth. Because so much is included, we had fewer vendors to coordinate on our own, which saved us time, stress, and additional costs. If you’re looking for a beautiful venue in North Georgia that offers incredible value and includes so many essentials, I highly recommend The Wheeler House.”

“Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

“Overall, we would absolutely choose Ashton Gardens Corinth again. We had a wonderful experience with the venue and Walter’s Wedding Estates overall, and I’m sharing this review in hopes it helps future couples researching venues. First, our wedding planner and coordinator, Becca, was incredible. She is extremely organized, a great communicator, and such a kind person. Our day would not have been the same without her. She kept everything running smoothly behind the scenes, checked in on us throughout the day, and truly made us feel supported and cared for. Venue: The beauty of Ashton Gardens is truly unmatched. The chapel is breathtaking, and I will never forget the moment the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle. The bridal suite was exactly what I hoped for and comfortably fit me, my seven bridesmaids, both moms, and our hair and makeup artists without feeling crowded. The groom’s suite is smaller, so the groom and his groomsmen chose to get ready off-site, which worked fine for them. One thing we loved is that the reception space is just a short walk from the chapel, making the transition to cocktail hour and the reception very easy for guests. The reception hall is spacious and offers a lot of flexibility for floor plans. We had 142 guests, plus a rented dance floor and dueling piano players, and the space felt perfect. One thing we wish we had known before booking is that the “included” rehearsal hour is only offered Monday–Thursday. Rehearsals outside those days require an additional fee. Food & Drinks: We chose the exceptional catering and bar package through Walter’s. Unfortunately, the food ended up being our least favorite part of the wedding, which is the only reason we are giving a four-star review instead of five. Several guests mentioned their meals were cold or dry, and we later learned the last table served received noticeably smaller portions, which was disappointing given that our final guest count was submitted well in advance. However, the team did a great job accommodating guests with dietary restrictions. Along these lines, we were disappointed that there was no opportunity to have an actual tasting to choose our menu, so we chose a chicken and steak duet as a safe choice. We did attend a Walter’s showcase, but they only had pork, fish, or chicken to try that night. Since we had fewer than 150 guests, we paid to have both bars open, which we highly recommend to avoid long lines. Guests had great things to say about the bartending services, and the signature drinks were fantastic. Vendor Package: The vendor package was a huge benefit. Not having to worry about rentals like linens, plates, glassware, and tables saved us a lot of time and stress. The vendors we worked with through the package were professional, communicative, and wonderful to work with.”

We created a light and airy atmosphere as an extension of the outside with instagrammable walls and lush greenery to seal the deal. FruitCraft’s design elements honors all things living and is showcased in our living plants that adorn the space, custom made live edge tables and up-cycled lighting. The space has 14ft high ceilings, exposed beams with a northern orientation that lets natural light in perfectly positioned for the floor to ceiling plants.
