How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We got married with only 7-8 months notice and the venue and staff pulled it off tremendously. From the first meeting, our planner - Kaylie - was professional and receptive to our ideas and needs. We wanted a sort of “magic forest” theme and they delivered beyond our expectations. Weddings are expensive, but we do feel like we got our money’s worth, and I appreciated that there was room to cut costs wherever we wanted - it allowed for a lot of flexibility throughout the process. Tons and tons of variety and options. Kaylie helped the whole thing run smoothly and she maintained a calm control throughout the process. Grayson and the floral team totally floored us with the designs and decor, turning the reception hall into a bonafide dark academia / elven fantasy masterpiece. We got so many compliments on all the smallest details, and she was super receptive to our vision - totally knocked it out of the park. Ryan, Ann, and Bronte - along with the rest of the day-of staff (bartenders, servers, etc) were unbelievably accommodating and kind, going as far as to physically pick up waste from birds and woodland creatures that ended up near one of the ponds we wanted to take photos at. Everyone was locked into our needs without us even needing to voice any of them, and it all felt very personable - I felt very much like they were seeing us as people and individuals rather than just clients. Compliments to the chefs and cooking staff too. The dinners were very good and the cocktail hour apps and platters were awesome - super creative and really tasty! Couldn’t recommend this place more highly!”

The space is a beautiful historic building that's been converted to a four story (plus rooftop!) party venue. I loved that Deity provides all the dinnerware, linens and candles, it really limited the decisions we had to make so we could focus on personal touches for our day. “Living in AZ a majority of wedding venues are desert landscaped, which is beautiful but not something I was looking for. I also noticed while looking at other venues the background of the ceremony had buildings or houses that were visible in the pictures, again, not something I was looking for. After months of searching I came across Venue at the Grove and absolutely fell in love just by looking at the pictures alone. I set up a tour and let me tell you pictures do not do that place justice. Seeing it in person during the day and at night with all the trees lit up is absolutely beautiful!! The venue is all inclusive which helped tremendously because during that year leading up to the wedding I can honestly stay I was stress free (minus the seating chart lol) Communicating with the staff was great and their timelines getting back to me about all my questions was always right away. “We hosted our wedding at Olio in early August and simply had the best experience. From the moment we met Sarah on our tour, I felt like we were in good hands with the space and every single person who worked there and/or was associated with it. The building felt both modern and historic, and we loved the surprise of the lofted ceilings and twinkling lights once we stepped up the stairs. Olio was an great size for our 90 person event, and Sarah (and her team at Without a Hitch) helped us plan exactly the wedding we wanted, which included large rented palm trees, arcade games, a Richie's Slush cart with umbrella, even a surprise visit from Santa Claus...at Olio it all worked out. Folks say it a lot, but it was truly a blank canvas and our Olio wedding was perfectly personalized for us. When we got engaged they were the first venue I contacted for a tour and every single step along the way has reaffirmed that there’s no team I would rather have for our wedding. Maria, the owner was so fantastic for the first walk through and all of the communication was thorough and quick. Matt, the bar manager was phenomenal and everyone raved about our welcome and signature drinks. He worked with us to come up with exactly what we wanted and they tasted phenomenal. Forever in love with our fall welcome drink and my Prickly Pear Mojito. Nick, the co-owner and head chef was SO prompt with his responses and the food was to die for. As a former wedding vendor I know wedding food is typically sub par and that was 90% of my deciding factor for where we booked. EVERYTHING is amazing. He even worked with us to do items off the menu with our request to bring in some of our culture. Loved every second of it and was so sad when I had to accept we’re done with their cooking. The service team, literally all of them from start to finish were the most exceptional people I’ve encountered. So thorough, caring, and attentive. Never did I have to wait or wonder where anything was or what was happening next. They checked on us non stop and were always ready with another drink or hors d'oeuvre. Truly exceptional. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. “I cannot say enough about how AMAZING The Boylston Rooms was for my wedding!!! If you are looking for the perfect New England wedding in an old industrial building then THIS is the place for you. The best part is it’s a dedicated wedding venue. It is their entire job to throw the best weddings ever. They have a room FULL of decorations to choose from. They provide tableware, different colored table cloths and napkins, faux greenery and candles, drapery, arbors, card boxes, picture frames, etc. There are dedicated bridal and grooms suites with a lock code to keep your items safe. Fun settings around the building for photo sessions. Two beautiful rooms for the ceremony and reception. A beautiful patio for cocktail hour as long as weather permits. A dedicated catering kitchen attached to the reception room who will cater to all dietary needs!! “We absolutely loved our wedding at The Sanctuary! We initially worked with Amelia and then with Arthur and Kat towards the end of our planning process. Every contact at The Sanctuary was very responsive and accommodating. We loved the space, especially having multiple different areas for guests to enjoy (the chapel for dancing/desserts, the tent for dinner/conversation, and the outdoor patio for smores!) and the beautiful NYC skyline in the background. The bridal suite where we all got ready was spacious and comfortable. I was a little nervous about the temperature in the tent during a November wedding, but it was very comfortable! We will always be grateful to The Sanctuary for our beautiful wedding!”

“We had a fabulous wedding reception at the Donauschwaben German Cultural Center (Lenau Park). Their entire staff—from their awesome coordinator Christine to their banquet captain and bar staff—was so kind, so professional, and most importantly made our guests feel welcome and taken care of. Christine came to every meeting organized and prepared. She understands the details as well as the emotions that go into planning a wedding and was a great part of our support system. She is fair and reasonable—even helped us make a German Hall a little more “Italian” for the bride. We could not have asked for a better partner! As for the venue itself, it was the perfect place to host 300 of our closest friends and family. The space was beautiful, bright and happy. Our guests were comfortably seated at 32 round tables of 8 to 10. The team made all of our décor visions come to life. The outdoor patio was welcoming and comfortable for guests as well. The dance floor is huge! Perfect for an Italian tarantella. I would also say the room is set up well acoustically—with 300 people in the room and music playing, you could still hear the other people at your table. The entryway was also perfect for our receiving line. We were happy to see that guests could enjoy their time—whether they wanted to dance the night away, sit and chat, or just enjoy the night air with family. The food was excellent—seriously excellent. We got so many compliments after the wedding! They have their buffet line down to a science with all of our guests being served in a reasonable amount of time. They also did a great job of meeting the needs of our gluten- and dairy-free guests. That is so hard to do when you are feeding so many people, and even these guests said they enjoyed their meals. Finally, the money we spent on this wedding reception was well worth the value. The food and beverage packages are incredibly fair for the quality and the amount of food your guests will be served. We were also able to add appetizers and some special add-ons at a reasonable rate. The linens are provided by a separate vendor, but even those costs were not too bad, and everything looked beautiful when it was decorated! While there are certain rules the venue must follow and sometimes we needed to negotiate the details, Christine was highly transparent and upfront with us, and always worked with us to find the right solution for our day. After hosting our wedding here, we would absolutely do it again with this space and this team. When it comes to the Donauschwaben, we strongly recommend them for your wedding reception and cannot say enough good things about their level of service!”

“My husband and I got married here in June and loved everything about it! The venue itself is perfect for smaller-medium size weddings and very affordable compared to other places we looked it. Also, most of our guest were coming in from out of town, so it was important to us to have a fun area with lots of restaurants and accessibility without a car. This location couldn't have been better. Gabby was so helpful with answering any questions and assisting us through our wedding planning. She even helped navigate the rehearsal since our coordinator couldn't be there. Overall, we can't recommend Watson Block enough for its price, aesthetic, and service!”

“Got married at Simple Affair this June and everything was wonderful from start to finish! From the very first visit before securing the date, the staff was very informative and helpful. Maddy, our event coordinator, was so responsive and attentive to any and all questions we had throughout the planning process. The day of, the team that was working was very helpful as well and adjusted to even the smallest last minute changes we made to our timeline and the different adjustments we made to the flow of the reception. I could not recommend this venue enough! They have so many different options and can as involved and all inclusive or as hands off as you would like them to be, it’s really very personalizable and we couldn’t have picked a better option! Another great benefit is that if you are a DIY bride, they are so adaptable to your vision and can help assist in bringing your Pinterest board to life. The space of the venue really is so big it’s amazing how well you can decorate the space and still have room for a big dance floor. One specific thing we loved about this venue and a big reason we went with them was the possibility of bringing in your own food to better fit your vision. Having specific kinds of food was very important to us because we had a particular vision and we were able to achieve that here! For example, Stephanie recommended we skip the traditional first dances and family speeches and instead just dance our guests right into the dining room to a small surprise set from our band! “Every step of the way this team took such good care of us as a couple and guided us in the direction of the BEST people to work with. We had the pleasure of planning a majority of the wedding with Allie - who let me tell you, is INCREDIBLE. She is the absolute sweetest and has such an eye for detail (while always keeping budget in mind), she made the whole planning experience so easy and fun! As for day of - we could not have been more taken care. Mary was our day of coordinator and took care of EVERYTHING. She always was checking in with me, calming me down, offering food or drinks to keep me comfortable - it felt like another friend there to make sure nothing went wrong. Not to mention - she bustled my dress for me!!! Eddy was a HUGE part of our day when it came to food - he made sure we ate everything and even delivered food directly to us at times!! Our day would not have been the same without them there. As for the entire wedding experience - it was an absolute dream, everything about it was perfect. The food was out of this world incredible & they were able to accommodate to my Celiac and almost everything was made gluten free (and allergy friendly for certain guests). The bartenders were kind enough to learn guests names and drinks and treated everyone like family. We truly had the wedding of our dreams at The Barns - could not have had a better experience from start to finish.”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn.
