How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“When I was looking for a woodsy venue to get married at on the east coast, I stumbled upon Woodsgate at Stroudsmoor and it immediately stood out to me! We could get married surrounded by trees, with the ease of an all inclusive reception a short walk away. When we visited and saw the woodland chapel, even in the middle of winter, my breath was taken away and I wanted to cry because of how perfect and beautiful it is. It’s very secluded and has a lit-up walk to the ceremony site up an adorable path, and the reception hall has a cozy homey feel, while being straight out of a fantasy novel. We didn’t need much floral decor because of how beautiful everything is already, but the floral we did get was the perfect finishing touch, and I’m still obsessing over my bouquet. Aside from the gorgeous fairytale setting, the service was phenomenal and both our planner, Malia, and the staff were there to see to all our needs and make the day as stress-free and easygoing as possible. Malia was always quick to answer any questions, and was very willing to bring our unconventional ideas like Rock Band karaoke at the reception to life. Sometimes with all-inclusive venues you’re limited with customizing the wedding but that was not at all the case with Stroudsmoor. Everyone was so kind, professional, and our guests raved about the incredible food and service. I couldn’t imagine getting married at a more perfect place, and highly recommend this to anyone looking to have their own whimsical woodland wedding!!”

“We could not have asked for a more perfect venue for our wedding!! From the very beginning, the communication with the team was responsive and clear, which alleviated any stress and just let us focus on the fun stuff! The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous, with stunning details like the beautiful wood, stone, and stained glass accents that makes it feel like a little castle in the woods. The space is a beautiful historic building that's been converted to a four story (plus rooftop!) party venue. I loved that Deity provides all the dinnerware, linens and candles, it really limited the decisions we had to make so we could focus on personal touches for our day. “From the second we saw the venue in person and met with the Event Manager, Myles, we knew we found the perfect venue. The venue was beautiful from the start but the added touches of drapery, being able to select the right arch from their numerous options and countless other decor items really allowed us to bring our vision to life. The event spaces of the ceremony room, courtyard for cocktail hour and reception room comfortably fit our 94 guests. We were also very appreciative of not only having a spacious bridal suite to get ready in but also a grooms suite, as both came in handy. In briefly working with the Owner and Event Manager, Erin, we were introduced to the transportation option of using the venue's trolley service, which we were so thrilled we went with as our guests greatly enjoyed the special ride. And as mentioned, we knew The Boylston Rooms was the right venue for us after we met with Myles. Working with Myles was fun, effortless and very thorough. We also had the chance to work with Event Manager, Alyssa, on the day of the wedding who did a great job meeting our needs each step of the way. We would highly recommend working with The Boylston Rooms if you're looking for a spectacular venue with myriad decor options and wonderful staff members. “The Oviatt staff was fantastic and made our happily ever after event such a special moment for us. They worked with us on our bar menu and gave us a lot of freedom with making the space very intimate and personal. Being under the city lights of Los Angeles made this venue such a romantic tribute to the city that me and my wife fell in love in and grew up in. “Green Acres and the venue sales manager, Brooke were such a delight to work with for our wedding! The venue is absolutely stunning and we are so happy we decided to have our wedding there. The staff helped ensure our day went smoothly and were so kind and helpful throughout. Our suggestion would be to confirm that the preferred catering fits in your budget, but if it does, the food came out absolutely incredible. “Wedding venue shopping is a lot on a couple. It takes time and energy and can be very stressful. However, when we say we found the perfect place we mean it. Donauschwaben’s was one of our venue choices coming highly recommended by our friends and family already. We reached out through their website and within no time we got an immediate response from the Christine, Event/ Wedding planner to set up a meeting together. She is not only extremely kind, but had everything organized so beautifully to choose from it was a no-brainer to choose this venue. She even recommended our DJ who had played a previous wedding there who was incredible. All communication leading up to our big day was efficient and layed out easily for us to understand. Our checks were deposited in a timely manner by the venue, our tasting was so nice and so delicious. The no pressure wedding planning was worth every penny spent. Our wedding day was so special and so beautiful from start to finish from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour, to our lovely reception to follow. Not only was Christine present the day of, but the staff was also on their A game all night long. Everyone was so incredibly friendly and kind, we felt like royalty. We both highly recommend this venue and if you do, definitely get the Schnitzel, Prost! The only recommendation to the venue would be to update their beverage packages to include seltzers such as High noons or White claws. “From the moment we stepped into Watson Block we just knew it was exactly what we were looking for in a venue. If your vibe is intimate, romantic, old world charm this is your spot. Pictures don’t do it justice and it’s so beautiful you truly need very little to make it your own. Gaby was incredible for the entire planning process all the way through to our big day. We did almost everything ourselves- including creating an arch to be married under, to signage, to table decor, even our own wedding flowers. Gaby answered every question with ease and was incredible at assuaging my nerves. She and her team set things up perfectly from the ceremony to the switch for dinner and then dancing. I often questioned if we needed a day of coordinator and was so happy I didn’t waste my money on one because it wasn’t needed. I never knew a day could be as truly magical as our wedding was and a huge part of that was how much we loved our venue. I would happily suggest it to anyone asking. The other huge bonus is it was truly one of if not the best value for venues in the twin cities. This gem will continue to gain notoriety as an incredible venue for years to come!!”

“We got married here & LOVED our experience. We chose to go the DIY route and bring in our own catering & vendors (which were no extra fee to do so!) and were so happy to find a venue that allowed us to do that! Adding up all the expenses afterwards though I would highly recommend considering the packages with vendors/catering included as A Simple Affair pricing actually would have saved me a little in the long run and been much easier to do everything in one place. We really enjoyed our experience in booking, planning and day-of with all the A Simple Affair staff! Take advantage of their planning appointments as they are so helpful in nailing down your details and timeline! Also make sure to check out their decor as they have so much you can add on and not have to bring in your own PLUS there is a perfect spot for outdoor photos on the other side of the parking lot!”

Nazareth Hall is known throughout the region as a banquet and wedding facility, but it’s the rich history and lush setting that draws people here. Built in 1927 as an all-boy Catholic boarding school. It eventually evolved into a renowned military school for boys. Throughout its history the school stayed true to its Catholic roots and the nuns who served and taught here. Operating until 1982 the stories written within its walls are still told today. Re-emerging with a new mission and purpose in April of 1991, Nazareth Hall was reborn. It is in this picturesque place, reminiscent of castles of old, that brides come to be married and celebrate with family and friends in grand ballrooms. The classrooms and meeting spaces offer the perfect vintage background for business training sessions, and the manicured lawns have been host to numerous parties and festivities.

“Our company, Book That DJ, has DJ’ed hundreds of weddings at Nazareth. It is by far our favorite hall! There is never any issue, everything flows very smoothly, the food is absolutely amazing and it’s so beautiful! Each hall room has its own vibe and can be decorated so many different ways making every wedding different and unique. We absolutely love being here and don’t even get me started on how awesome the staff members are! Abby and her team are so pleasant to work with! FruitCraft Event Venue was designed to appeal to the modern couple as well as their friends and family who will love our gorgeous space and the elevated decor. We created a light and airy atmosphere as an extension of the outside with instagrammable walls and lush greenery to seal the deal. FruitCraft’s design elements honors all things living and is showcased in our living plants that adorn the space, custom made live edge tables and up-cycled lighting. The space has 14ft high ceilings, exposed beams with a northern orientation that lets natural light in perfectly positioned for the floor to ceiling plants.
